NAICOM boils as workers protest, shut down Abuja head office

Workers of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) on Monday shut down the Insurance industry regulatory body over allegations against the Commission bordering on corruption, lack of staff training, poor security of staff, among others. 

The workers under the aegis of Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Service Employees (AUPCTRE) called for the intervention President Muhammadu Buhari to checkmate the excesses of the executive management, threatening they will go on with the protest for a stretch of seven days.

In an interview with Vanguard, AUPCTRE chairman, NAICOM chapter, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullateef alleged gross mismanagement of the Commission’s fund by executive management of the Commission. 

Abdulateef mentioned other grievances of the workers against the NAICOM to include non-adherence to government circulars and financial regulations, lack of transparency in staff re recruitment and promotions, non-provision of working tools, failure to conduct 2015 promotion exams, refusal to release 2014 promotion letters among some others irregularities
