Ronaldo throws journalist’s microphone into lake

Portuguese captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, took many by surprise on Wednesday when he threw the microphone of Diogo Torres, a reporter with CMTV, a Portuguese television station, into a lake.
The incident happened as Ronaldo was walking out of his hotel in Lyon, France, for a training session.

The reporter had asked him if he was ready for the match against Hungary – the final Group F game for the team – which has come under intense pressure as a result of poor performance.

The Portuguese team, which has not won a single game in the competition, will need at least a draw in the match against Hungary to secure a place in the last 16.

Narrating the encounter to BBC Sport, Torres said the footballer would have done otherwise if he had taken a moment to reflect about his action.
“I asked Ronaldo if he was prepared for the match, he didn’t answer. He grabbed my mic and threw it into the lake,” he said.

“I’m not sure why he did it. I think it was a momentary thing. I think he would not have done it if he had thought about it.

“We are a TV channel of a major newspaper in Portugal. We produce a lot of news about him. Some of it he doesn’t like. Perhaps that’s why he did it. But it wasn’t a personal thing.

“I’ve not had an apology from Ronaldo or the team. We travelled to France on the same plane with the players and will fly back with them.”
